Myth: Just tell the judge that you were going with the flow of traffic and get out of a ticket. This myth won’t help you at all in court. You are admitting to a judge that you were speeding and your defense is that others were doing it too. A fair judge has to find you guilty because you admitted to guilt.
Myth: If the officer doesn’t show up, you win the case. In some jurisdictions this has been true, but in most places the information on the ticket and from the radar unit are still part of the court’s evidence even if the officer doesn’t show because they are busy or on vacation.
Myth: You have to be a trained lawyer to represent yourself in traffic court. This isn’t true because for most traffic violations the individual charged is the one representing themselves in court. You can represent yourself in court without professional training.
