Everyone has at one time or another at least seen someone on the road get caught in a speed trap. If you do get a speed trap ticket, there is a defense. Normally it works best for highways as opposed to local roads. It involves finding the critical speed of the road which normally is 5 to 9 miles over what the posted speed limit is on roads with limits that are faster than 60 miles per hour. If you are going considerable faster, this isn’t going to work. The concept is to argue that the engineer who surveyed the road stated that the speed limit could safely be higher but the jurisdiction lowered it to create a speed trap for revenue.
